Just watched Alex Strangelove on Netflix. A little scattered and awkward in places, and you'd probably enjoy it more if you were in high school but fun . . .
Quirkey, funny, a bit hard to swallow (pun intended) in places, like she's just "passing the baton", but underneath it all is so much truth. I don't normally like icky sweet happy endings in these types of movies anymore (Geography Club I thought was a little more honest), but in this case, closing with all the different videos made it work.
Things like this is why I read your blog, and make it the last one I read before starting my day, so my day starts on an upbeat.
Idly curious to know what Mr. Ratskoff over at advocate.com would say about it. Does it meet the I-set-the-standard-or-it-isn't-gay test?
Don't know about the Advocate, which I don't read very often, but did see some asinine criticism that it was unfair to bi dudes. Of which I are one, so I think I get to decide that, and it wasn't. "Alex" didn't have the budgetary resources of "Simon" but it was a pretty honest presentation of the struggles some guys go through trying to live up to their expectations of what others expect from them. And Daniel Doheny was charming. I liked Nick Robinson's performance in "Simon" but it was hard to swallow (!) him as a high school student.
