10 Gayest Moments in 6 Episodes of 'Teen Wolf'
7.10.2013
BY SAMANTHA HENDERSONDanny may be our favorite openly gay character on the show, but MTV's shirtless werewolf romp is getting queerer than ever
Only six episodes of the current season of “Teen Wolf” have aired so far, but it has been, without a doubt, the gay werewolf bonanza fans have been aching for since the series began in 2011.
Gay creator and writer Jeff Davis has ensured that the show be as homoerotic as possible, but up until this season, we’ve only gotten snippets of any real homo activity. The sole gay character, Danny, has had pretty minimal screen time compared to the straight characters, but to Davis’ credit, last season did include a trip to a gay club.
Now though, we’re getting to the good gay stuff, on top of the ever-present gay male/straight female gaze. Here, in reverse order, are this season’s top 10 gayest moments and trends thus far:
10. Isaac’s Fashion Choices
While the V-necks are great, they are getting a little redundant. Luckily, Isaac clearly knows a thing or two and has been getting pretty metro with his fashion choices. Thus far, he has accessorized a werewolf hunt in episode three with a nicely-tied scarf and lined jacket. But he breaks out the big guns in the following episode when he strolls into the locker room in a drool-worthy shawl-collar cardigan. He needs to take the rest of the pack shopping. Scott needs to stop wearing flannel, seriously.
9. Scott’s Bathroom “Emergency” (Episode 4)
Isaac: Mr. Harris, can I use the bathroom, please?
Scott: I have to go to the bathroom, too. I really have to go, like medical emergency have to go.
Woah, keep it in your pants, Scott. Isaac is crazy hot, but you basically just announced to the whole class that you want to chase him into the bathroom and have your way with him. Not that anyone would blame you.
8. Any Slow-Mo, Long Male-on-Male Stare Down
8. Any Slow-Mo, Long Male-on-Male Stare Down
The introduction of the twins has increased the amount of slow-motion staring contests among werewolves, and where there’s staring among hot guys, there’s sexual tension. Well, at least on Teen Wolf. Scott has partaken, but it’s really Isaac who has developed a penchant for glaring them down, ever so broodingly. Then there’s the standoff in the hallway. Aidan beats up Ethan, who takes some serious masochistic pleasure in it, and Isaac just looks on. Not exactly a threesome, but it’s got some S&M potential.
7. Deep V-Neck T-Shirts
The male characters fortunately only wear shirts about 60 % of the time, but when they do, they do it well, donning almost exclusively colored henleys and v-necks. This season, the latter are descending lower and lower, primarily on Danny, who first displays his bright green, likely American Apparel pec-baring tee in Episode 4, and brings it back for a triumphant return in Episode 5. Here’s hoping it remains his favorite item, and that Isaac’s and Derek’s still high V’s begin to plummet, Danny-style.
6. Initial “Super Wolf” Twin Morph
It was clear within the first five minutes of episode one that the gay gaze/shirtless obsession was going to be off the charts this season. Aidan and Ethan, being twins, walk and remove their shirts in perfect unison, only to morph into a super-werewolf that combines their powers. As with most fight scenes, shirts only serve as a hindrance. And there’s clearly some strange incestuous, twin homoeroticism (especially since Ethan is gay), but we can leave that unanalyzed for now, or forever.
5. Fisting humor
Who doesn’t love some good old-fashioned euphemistic fisting humor between straight men? Stiles inexplicably demonstrates snapping on a long rubber glove and a few scenes later, demands to see just how big and powerful Derek’s fist is. No further description necessary.
4. Scott almost dying over being upset about Derek (episode 5)
Sure, Scott loves Allison so much. Seasons one and two made that pretty clear with the incessant straight sex scenes. We get it. But you know whom Scott loves, maybe even more? Derek. Scott gets pretty torn up about Allison, but has he ever started bleeding black goo and lost the inability to heal because of her? No. In episode five, he’s on the final verge of death just because he can’t get over the thought of Derek being gone. Allison’s presence doesn’t do much, except when she stitches up the wounds and tricks Scott into believing he’s healing (Werewolf science? Sure.) But we all know where the love really is.
3. Danny’s Offer to Have Sex With Stiles
Stiles: You know who else is a virgin? Me! I’m a virgin, OK? And you know what that means? That means that my lack of sexual experience is now literally a threat to my life. OK. I need to have sex like right now. Someone needs to have sex with me like today. Someone needs to sex me right now!
Danny (In deep-V): All right, I’ll do it.
Stiles: What?
Danny: Come to my place at 9. Plan to stay the night... I like to cuddle.
Stiles: That was so sweet. Are you kidding?
Danny: Yes. I’m kidding.
This scene could happen in almost any teen show, but its presentation in Teen Wolf is in no way mocking or meant to incite laughter over the homosexual implications. It is this kind of nuance that has been present in the show since the start, even before anything seriously gay ever happened. Danny’s presence, in and of itself, has kept Teen Wolf on a healthy LGBTQ track, and things are only looking up as this season progresses.
2. Lesbians in the Woods (Episode 3)
What a wonderful, refreshing, and unexpected scene. Since Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis is a gay man and the show has been populated pretty much only by shirtless males, some girl-on-girl action didn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon, and certainly not before any gay-guy sex scenes. Let’s offer snaps to the writers for continuing to surprise the audience and to diversify storylines and characters, especially during a primetime cable time slot.
1. Danny’s Steamy Hookup Scene (Episode 6)
This is the big one we’ve been waiting for. In Episode 6, Danny’s V-neck comes off, but not just as he’s changing in the locker room for lacrosse practice. Ethan, the latest gay character, and Danny finally start going at it in some skeezy, haunted motel, only to be cut off when some wolfs bane starts to make Ethan hallucinate and try to commit suicide.
It’s such a downer when that happens, right? Damn wolfs bane—the ultimate cock block.

I'd argue that Supernatural is as homoerotic, though more subtle.
