An Update on Daniel – How You Can Help

http://lostnfoundyouth.org/lost-n-found-releases-an-update-on-daniel/

ATLANTA, Aug. 31, 2014 – As part of our mission to serve LGBTQ youth in crisis, we have been working very closely with Daniel – the 19 year old youth in this YouTube video which has been seen by millions around the world – to give him the support he needs. We have a team of individuals who are committed to ensuring he is safe and will have access to resources which will help him move forward with his life. He has asked his friends to discontinue the GoFundMe page and is requesting that additional donations for youth homelessness be directed to Lost-n-Found Youth so many more kids are able get the help they need.

As upsetting as Daniel’s case is, he is not alone. Daniel is only one of more than 400 youth that Lost-n-Found Youth has assisted since 2011. Here are some stark realities they face every day:

53 percent of the youth Lost-n-Found work with who come out to their parents end up being kicked out many have nowhere to go.

National estimates suggest 40 percent of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ.

Every night there are as many as 750 LGBTQ homeless youth in the city of Atlanta.

There are only about 48 hours from the time a kid becomes homeless before 33 percent of youth begin to engage in risky behaviors as theft, drug activity or selling their bodies for money to survive.

Daniel has asked you to help the many others like him by continuing to give to Lost-n-Found Youth. To give, please donate now.

Notes for news media: Daniel wants and needs time and space to plan his next steps. For that reason, we are working on his behalf to manage media and public appearance requests so that he can be completely focused on his future. Members of the news media are respectfully requested to contact Lost-n-Found Youth at communications@lost- n-found.org.
