Facebook made a $10,000 donation in May to the reelection campaign of Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, who has received national attention for fighting a court ruling that would make gay marriage legal in the state.
The donation, first reported by QSaltLake, is listed in a filing for Reyes' 2014 primary campaign on the State of Utah Financial Disclosures website.
Retract support of Sean Reyes for Utah Attorney General
On May 13, 2014, Facebook, Inc. donated $10,000 to the campaign of Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes. Reyes has taken the lead in the fight to continue the oppression of Utah's LGBT population and is pushing that fight into the national arena by calling upon the United States Supreme Court to overturn the lower court rulings that have deemed marriage discrimination laws to be unconstitutional. He has also filed suit in Utah's Supreme Court to halt adoptions by same-sex couples and to break up several adoptions that were legally ordered by family judges on those grounds.
Realizing that Facebook can't take back its contribution to Reyes, we hereby request that Facebook publicly decry this bigotry and make an equal or greater contribution to the campaign of Charles Stormont who is also seeking the office of Utah Attorney General. Stormont has publicly proclaimed his support of non-discrimination protections for Utah's LGBT population and has vowed to end these ridiculous and discriminatory lawsuits.
