New Series: Eyewitness

A First Look at USA Network's new crime thriller Eyewitness premiering Sunday, October 16 at 10/9c.

When two innocent teenage boys secretly meet up in the forest, they bear witness to a shooting and barely escape with their lives. Desperate to keep their relationship a secret and in fear of being found by the perpetrator, they remain silent but soon learn that what has been seen cannot be unseen and when you witness a horrible event it changes everything, forever.

What I like about it (based on the preview) is that the point isn't a scandal that these guys -- one gay, one "straight" -- are attracted to each other, make out and start having sex, but that they're caught being the eyewitnesses, So it doesn't make them professionally queer or political or anything except two guys being attracted to each other. And it becomes their love story.

CAST INTERVIEWS

They say it avoids stereotypes to tell a love story. The writers/producers may think it avoids stereotypes but in reality we all know of countless incidents when two guys feel sexual attraction and one is more comfortable with it than the other. I've seen some of this before, including the physical striking out of the "straight" guy when he really, really wants to get intimate with the gay guy. Maybe most of us have. One of the reasons I wish everybody -- gay, bi, straight -- would get over the labels.
