One minute of serious: Who are the 1 percent?

You've heard about the 99 Per Cent Movement, represented by the folks who are protesting on Wall Street and in many other cities around the U.S. What's that all about? The Con Party — i. e. , Republicons — want you to believe the proletariat rabble are engaging in “class warfare” by storming the gates of bankers and speculators. Let's take a look at a few facts. (These numbers are from 2007 and it's gotten worse since then.)

The top 1 percent owns 40 percent of all American wealth.
The top 1 percent takes home 24 percent of all American income.
The top 1 percent owns half of all American stocks, bonds and mutual funds.
The top 1 percent have only 5 percent of all American personal debt.
The top 1 percent are getting more of all American income than any time since the 1920s.

Pretty easy to see it's the Con men and women who have been waging class warfare for a long, long time. And winning. Who are the 1 percent? The only list I could find is the 400 richest but it's a good place to start: http://www.forbes.com/forbes-400/list/

It would be an interesting research project to find out which and how many of the top 1 percent support those right-wing projects like trying to manipulate state election rules to suppress minority voting and help the Con Party. The Pro(gressive) Party better wake up.

End of serious.
